Service Project 2009

Again in 2009 for a good cause

Just like in the last two years, therapoint from Wiblingen and Pfuhl, has created team „therapoint“ which will be running for charity. For every kilometre run/walked by this team, 1€ will be donated to the Doctor Clowns. This non-profit organization can use every penny. Their goal is to bring sick children laughter and happiness again in hospitals in and around Ulm. Because laughter is the best medicine! More information can be found at www.doctor-clowns.de

Team therapoint has participated in some part of the Einstein-Marathon activities in both 2007 and 2008. With donations, from runners, sponsors and patients, the team gathered over 1000€ for Doctor Clowns. Because it is so difficult for non-profit organizations to stay afloat financially the cause is hoping for more runners to participate with them.
Information is available at
www.therapoint.de or by telephone at 0731-1752702.

This picture shows the most pleasing result of our Kenya charity project from 2008.
In the first row are the two boys whom YOUR donations at the Einstein-Marathon 2008 helped to send to school:

Kiplagat Surungai and Hosea Kiprop Kiberen.
In the second row are the teachers, the messengers, and the administrators of the charity project.

"LaufSchule in Kenia" and "LaufSchuhe für Kenia"

The Einstein Marathon has supported non-profit organizations and charity opportunities. A part of that are the maintenaince of the Ulmer Münster and "Konto 100.000 – Ulmer helft Euren Mitbürgern" of the SÜDWEST PRESSE. Last year, with the "Bewegte Schule – bewegte Pause" of the Erich-Kästner-Schule in Neu-Ulm Ludwigsfeld and the Lions-Lebenslauf, two more projects were added to the mix. For which the participants could, by walking across a special „Spendenmatte“(Donation Carpet), make a contribution to the cause.

This year, we worked together with some long distance runners to start a new project to help support both kids and runners in Kenya. Motivation for this project came from the arrival of three Kenyan runners this summer in Ulm. From this experience we learned a lot about the living conditions in Eldoret in the mountains of Kenya. We also had first hand partners who could help us plan our service project. Through their visit, two special projects were developed and the Einstein-Marathon will gladly accept all donations to their cause.
The project "LaufSchule in Eldoret" (Runners School in Eldoret) – This projects plans to build a runners school in Kenya with the goal of providing schooling and training to talented young runners in Kenya. Also, there will be a center with telephones, internet, and email capabilities from which everything will be coordinated.
The majority of the donations collected will be used to provide schooling for young Kenyans who cannot afford to pay for school. Approximately 50€ per month per child could change their lives.

This project is supported with donations at both of the long training runs on the 17. and 24. of August, with donations instead of entrance fees at the medical conference of Dr. Dieter Kleinmann on the 5. of September in Ulm as well as collections through “MAN-Hubleiter” on the Münsterplatz and at the Einstein-Marathon. At the marathon, participants can run over a marked mat and leave a 3€ donation. One third of this donation goes to each of the following three projects: Action 100.000, the restoration of the Ulmer Münster and to the Project "LaufSchule in Eldoret".

The second project, "LaufSchuhe für Kenia" (Running Shoes for Kenya), is an effort together with the Lions-Club Ulm/Neu-Ulm/Alb-Donau under the leadership of Johannes Völk and Karin Krings and the Spedition Noerpel from Ulm. On the weekend of the Einstein Marathon, five Smart convertibles will be placed on the Münsterplatz in which anyone can toss used running shoes that they are willing to donate. In return, donators will be entered in a lottery for a weekend trip with a Smart convertible, thanks to Smart Center Ulm in Senden. Included in the starterbags will be special cards that will ensure the shoes can be passed off without any long waiting time. The shoes will then be shipped by Spedition Noerpel without any extra costs to Kenya. In Eldoret they will be distributed at the Contact Centre to runners from the area. Soon after this reports and pictures will be posted.

Both money and materials – in this case shoes– will be shipped cost-free to Kenya. This is guarantee made by the organizers of the Einstein-Marathon, the company Noerpel and the Lions Ulm/Neu-Ulm/Alb-Donau.
